CHAPTER 12
DANE
I’m sitting in the passenger seat of our car, smoking a bar. I got a lot of shit on my mind. I wanna know what this cop has on us, and if he’s holding out by not telling us everything he knows. I look behind us. Maybe he’s following us for now. I don’t see anybody though. And then there’s this college shit. I’m not sure, but I don’t know if this is for me or not. The last thing on my mind is Asia. I don’t know where she is.
I had been calling that girl all day, with no luck of getting her on the phone. I didn’t just hit her house phone and her cell, I also called her best friend and she claimed she hadn’t seen her either. It ain’t like her not to answer my calls. Any other time she’d be burning my cell phone minutes up and I’d have to put her off, because she’d be calling me and not talking ‘bout shit.
“Still trying to call that bitch huh?” Tex asks me, as he steers the car down the street. “That chick really do got you fucked up. I swear, out of all of the bitches you came across in your time, I couldn’t see her being the one to open your nose. If you ask me Memory, is badder than she is anyway. That’s just my opinion though.”
I shake my head. He’s calling her multiple bitches to get me mad but I don’t give in. Plus once again he not saying shit I wanna hear. “So you speaking to me now. Because you was acting like a bitch earlier.”
“I never wasn’t speaking to you. I just don’t like you being soft all of a sudden. If you let one nigga come on the job and get you shook, maybe this life was never for you.”
“If by soft you mean keeping us out of jail, I’m as soft as cotton. Don’t forget you haven’t been out of jail long, Tex. You got court coming up next month and everything. You sure you trying to add breaking and entering to your charges? I would think you’d be the first one who wanna back off.”
“Yeah whatever.”
My phone rings. When I see who’s calling I shake my head. I started to let it ring, but if something is wrong I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself. “Where you been, Asia?”
“What do you want?” she asks with an attitude.
“First off you calling me.”
“That’s because you’ve been ringing my phone like you’re crazy, Dane, and unlike what you might believe, I have shit to do too. Like get ready for college.”
I look at the phone. “Hold up, you playing me like that?”
“I’m just saying if you—”
I hung up on her. I don’t feel like her shit right now either. If she wants to come at me like that then I guess we done. As long as I know she’s safe, I’m good on everything else. When my phone rings again, I ignore it.
